Wedding process

Whether you know exactly what you are looking for or aren’t sure where to start, here is a list of questions to get your ideas flowing to create your perfect invitation:

  • How did you and your fiancé meet?
  • What hobbies or interests do you have?
  • What lifestyle do you lead? Active outdoors? Sporty? Artistic? Museum-goers?
  • Do you collect anything?
  • Are there cultural or religious references you'd like to include?
  • What do you do for a living?
  • Where have you traveled together?
  • What music do you like?
  • Do you have any nicknames or affectionate quirks that your friends and family associate with you?

Aurora and Bones
Getting to know the couple: Aurora and Bones wanted to completely break the rules of traditional invitations. Mainstream anything just wasn’t for them. Aurora handed us a huge stack of paper clippings, drawings and memorabilia she had collected over the years just because she liked them. She had no idea they would one day land in her wedding invitation. Oh yeah, and she mentioned that her nickname growing up was “aorta,” there had to be a monkey incorporated in the design and Bones has over 2,000 vintage records he’d been collecting for over 20 years! Lastly, the idea of a lot of imagery and information suited them. Their home was a mix of heirloom furniture they couldn’t give away, including a church pew in their living room.

The solution
The aorta image of a heart tied in nicely with the concept of love, which Spiffy Press carried through in various symbolic forms, such as semaphore flags and brail that spelled love. The rest of the images came from the stack provided by Aurora. The colorful pages broke from tradition, as did the grommet fastener. Best of all is that their guests loved receiving the invitations! Aurora said the phone started ringing immediately as guests tried to decode what each image meant, why it had been included and how it connected to the couple. It ended up providing a little entertainment and setting the tone for an eclectic couple’s wedding celebration!

Debra and Thomas
Getting to know the couple: Debra and Thomas were looking for a simple, yet elegant invitation that stood out in some way from the others she'd seen. This young couple was on the wedding circuit, attending many weddings in the past year. They wanted their invitation to be different in some way, but they weren't sure how. They were leaning toward a more traditional letterpress invitation that used the dusty rose color they'd chosen for their wedding party.

The solution
Spiffy Press created an invititation that felt traditional and modern at the same time. The letterpress printing gave the invitation a slight formal feeling, as the horizontal format updated the look. The swrily design evoked a modern version of a floral design and was carried out on all of the components with a blind emboss. The dusty rose color matched Debra's bridesmaids' dresses as she'd requested. When Debra saw her printed invitations for the first time, she said, "None of my friends have anything like this! I love them!"

Candice and David

Getting to know the couple: As soon as Candice and David met, they spent their time traveling and were looking for a way to incorporate some of their photos in their invitation. They wanted to tell their story through real photos and minimal text. They were comfortable openly sharing their pictures as a way for others to experience them as a couple before the wedding. This was especially important to them since most of David’s extended family was out of town and hadn’t met Candice yet.

The solution
Spiffy Press created a storybook invitation that told a romantic story of how they met, where they traveled and concluded with an invitation to their wedding. The book evoked a warm feeling, as if each guest was personally invited to look through their travel scrapbook. Spiffy Press selected photos that showed the couple laughing together, snorkeling underwater and being themselves. The invitation highlighted significant dates in the couple's courtship that ran along the footer of each page. The invitation wasn’t fussy or overly formal. It was highly personal and each storybook invitation was a souvenir in advance of the big day. The warm brown and soft pink colors matched the bridal party and floral colors. Candice said the guests were overwhelmed by the invitation and kept it as a special keepsake of the wedding day.
